The return of the plaid

Who doesn't remember Cher, the popular high school girl from the nineties? Well this fashionable girl wears a lot (and i really mean a lot) of plaids.
Seventeen years later, in an era where nothing seemingly goes right, we fall back on former fashion, former trends and past events. We feel once more inspired, once more relieved by blasts from the past. 2012 proofs to be a true comeback for the geomatrics, uniformity and colors plaids give us.
Amongst the designers who celebrate plaids this upcoming season are Vivienne Westwood, Carven, Alexandre Herchcovitch and Sonia Rykiel.

Experiment: analog photography

Ever since i came across some analog pictures from my childhood, i am fascinated with analog photography. I just love it's spontaneity, colors and blurriness.

one of my favorite pictures from my childhood: my dad en i on the beach somewhere in the early nineties
Driven by this curiosity for (analog) photography - and anything that has something to do with history for that matter - i decided to take on an experiment
I found two disposable/single-use cameras which were far past the expiration date (2005). And during a few months i took them everywhere i went. Of course there were a lot of crumbly and dark photos...but to my suprise a few of them turned quite nice.

Azzedine Alaïa in the 21th century. Exposition at Groninger Museum, Netherlands

Azzedine Alaïa at The Groninger Museum
december 11th 2011 - may 6th 2012

Alaïa is considered to be one of the last remaining great couturiers. He is well known for his use of fabrics, it's almost as if his clothing fits the body like a second skin. He has a great eye for silhouettes and use of fabrics. This unique kind of designing let him on to in vending stretch, which resulted in the invention of the legging.
At the Groninger museum his work of the last decade (2000 - 2011) is on display. Not by date, but by fabric and color. This results in to an interesting glimpse in the head of the master himself.
It shows his love for snake skin, chiffon, leather, wool and lycra.
Also fascinating is the amount of (jaw dropping) handwork he puts into his creations. Every detail, every inch is sheer perfection.

One of my favorite pieces is a black chiffon/snake skin dress from the summer 2010 couture collection.
It shows exactly what Alaïa is capabel of: fine craftmanship with a clear vision.
