Marketing at its best: Heineken passport

Heineken passport

For it's latest campaign, Heineken took a slightly different approach. Not a shiny 'my brand is the best thing on the planet' kind of campaign but something quite unusual...
Heineken send Justin Bratton to Inner Mongolia where he has to make his way to Bangkok with just Heineken as his currency and bargaining chip: a 5187km journey across foreign countries. They did this to test the true value of it's beer. The campaign consists of four impressive 2 minute videos and a Facebook application.
The campaign really shows of he core values of the brand by keeping it clean, refreshing and very original!

graphic designer monika traikov

Monika Traikov is a Toronto based graphic designer with a passion for every facet of design: branding, typography, layouts and illustration. In here work she makes a connection between the impact of digital manipulation while still communication pieces of Monika's past. She focuses on the illusion of memories and nostalgia. The photographs are digitally manipulated via pixelating, shifting, layering and stretching elements of the frame.

Monika about her work:
“The works explore the illusion of memories and nostalgia, reflecting a constant yearning for the past, often in an idealized or distorted form. The way we remember moments are often glossed over, or warped in a beautiful way. Often, feelings, colours and emotions are remembered more than the tangible. I used my personal experiences with memories to deconstruct my old family photographs, and create a new, idealized, and illusionary moments. Each image evokes a certain mood and emotion encased in a memory- whether it is an eerie memory that you can’t quite put back together, or a dreamy, fantastical memory that you will never forget. The series tells a fragmented story of different emotions, moods, and moments that translates these foreign family photographs into something familiar and thought provoking. I wanted to establish a familiarity in each image, allowing viewers to extract their own personal meaning and be able to relate them to their own memories and past.

The photographs are scanned into the computer digitally, and are changed through stretching, pixelating, shifting, or layering. Using a digital medium contrasts the organic elements of the photographs by adding structure, organization and a more methodological element to the images. The post processing helps to unify the essence of past and present.
The fragmented qualities of the images mimic the constructive and illusionary processes that our minds use in remembering a specific moment of our past. The images weave together both truth (the tangible photographs) and illusions (the distortions and fragments) to create a sense of uncanny memory.”

a compilation of New York Fashion Week

Even though Milan Fashion Week is already in full swing, I didn't want to make you miss out on some of New York Fashion Week's (MBFW) SS13 highlights.
For me it was all about silhouettes, colors, fabrics and of course: forecasting. What is their outlook on 2013? What will the future have in store for us?
Please take a look on (for me) very interesting and exciting things that went down in New York City.

Alexander Wang SS2013 - Watcha waitin' for, put your back in it, put, put your back in it
Although many designers used a lot of vibrant colors in their SS collection, Wang really stood out because of his sober (well in fact: non-excisting) use of colors. A part from a glow-in-the-dark range, the collection was completely in black, white, greys and beige.

For Wang it started out with the urban uniform: the t-shirt, the board shirt, the parka and creating a tension between structure and fluidity. To whole collection is based on embracing strength. Strong and graphic are keywords in this collection.
This resulted in the use of sharp silhouettes and rigid fabrics like leather and neoprene (rubber), while maintaining a fluidity by adding a lot of cut outs. What I especially liked about the show is that it all came together so well: the designs, the location and of course the music. Wang gave a very clear vision on the future during this tough times "Watcha waitin' for, put your back in it"

Time for some new sugary tunes...I came across this really relaxing, but yet energetic song and immediately it was stuck in my head. This Washington-based production duo Odesza, the collaborative effort of producers BeachesBeaches and Catacombkid, finally drop their much anticipated debut album Summer’s Gone. IPlayYouListen is taken from that very album.

brilliant quote

The Chinese use two brush strokes to write the word 'crisis'. One brush stroke stands for danger; the other for opportunity. In a crisis, be aware of the danger - but recognize the opportunity.

part three Skopje, Thessaloniki

Sorry for taking so long to update my blogpost. Writing this, i'm sitting at home in Amsterdam again. The trip eventually came to an end. But this blogpost isn't about Amsterdam nor it is about getting back into reality...it's about Skopje and Thessaloniki (Greece). Enjoy!
After this I still owe you one blogpost, and a very exciting one. More about this in the upcoming week!
